Reasons/Razones - Madrid 2010
28 January to 14 February, 2010
Gallery: Espacio Menosuno, Calle La Palma, Madrid.
The third collaborative exhibition with my friend, artist Rox De Luca in Madrid.
An art exhibition exploring connections and differences between Spain and Australia.
Our Madrid exhibition involved a fascinating connection with a famous family of respected Encuadernaciones or book binders: The Jesus Cortes family, who for at least three generations have operated a shop in the heart of Madrid. When replacing old and damaged books with new covers, the book binders kept the old Spanish covers and passed these onto the artists, who lovingly transformed them into contemporary works of art. Many of the old book covers have traversed the globe to Australia in the course of this journey.
Espacio Menosuno, the exhibition venue is an exciting artist-run space in central Madrid and we felt very privileged to have been selected to exhibit Australian contemporary art to a Spanish audience. We also received some support from the Australian embassy in Spain.
There was an opening night on Thursday 28 Jan. See photos of the opening night below.
